The Mete Sayar (Görümlü) Case

During 2013, an action was brought against 23rd Gendarmerie Border Brigade Commander Mete Sayar, Görümlü 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion Commander retired Colonel Hasan Basri Vural, 3rd Company Team Commander First Lieutenant İbrahim Kıraç, Lieutenant Murat Ali Yıldız, Second Lieutenant Serdar Tekin connected to the Kayseri Airborne Brigade and Tansel Erok from the 2nd Commando Battalion Command on grounds of the enforced disappearance of 6 individuals in the Görümlü village of Şırnak on June 14, 1993 and based on killing one or more persons. The case was transferred to Ankara following the first hearing where none of the defendants were under arrest.

On July, 3 2015, in presenting his opinion as to the accusations, the prosecutor asked that the defendants be acquitted due to lack of sufficient evidence. During the same hearing no time was permitted for the plaintiffs to present their opposing view and the board of the 9th High Penal Court of Ankara accepted the prosecutor’s opinion and decided to acquit the defendants. Currently the case is at the stage of being appealed.
